What a pleasure it was to accompany eight children from Years 1 and 2 at the KS1 Gym Trail event at Wickford Primary School on Wednesday 23/9/26. All the children participated in the huge range of activities with enthusiasm and confidence and we were all so proud of them.
Thank you to all the family members that came and supported our Fun Walk on 25/9/26, the beautiful weather definitely helped.
Year 6 Residential Adventure at Bawdsey Manor
What an incredible few days our Year 6 children have had on their residential adventure at Bawdsey Manor in Suffolk! Throughout their stay, the children had the opportunity to take part in a fantastic range of exciting activities, including abseiling, Trapeze, a beach and coastal walk, the giant swing, aeroball, fencing, Jacob’s Ladder, zip wire and survivor challenges. Each activity encouraged the children to step outside their comfort zones, face new challenges, develop their confidence and work together as a team.
The children also enjoyed a brilliant programme of evening activities, including Ambush, a disco and a campfire, providing plenty of opportunities for laughter, friendship and making special memories together. It was wonderful to see the children demonstrating resilience, determination, teamwork and independence throughout the experience. Whether conquering a fear of heights, encouraging a friend or trying something completely new, every child had opportunities to shine and celebrate their achievements.
A huge thank you must go to our fantastic Year 6 team, who gave up their time away from their own families to make this wonderful experience possible. Their dedication, enthusiasm, care and encouragement ensured that the children were supported throughout their adventure and able to create memories that will last a lifetime.
On Thursday 15th October, Year 2 enjoyed a fantastic trip to Layer Marney Tower as part of their learning about the Great Fire of London.
The children took part in a range of exciting, hands-on activities throughout the day. They explored their artistic skills by creating chalk pictures, investigated the fire triangle in Science and brought history to life by acting out parts of the story of the Great Fire of London.
One of the highlights of the day was climbing to the top of the tower, where the children were rewarded with wonderful views!
It was a brilliant day filled with fun, learning and memorable experiences. The children thoroughly enjoyed bringing their classroom learning to life, and we are very proud of their enthusiasm and excellent behaviour throughout the visit.

🌟 School Council Training – Working Together, Growing Together! 🌟
We were delighted to welcome representatives from four other primary and secondary schools to Abacus for a fantastic School Council Training Session on Friday 16th October 2026 , delivered by Brooke and Beatrix, one of the ambassadors from the Multi Schools Council.
Seven of our very own School Council representatives took part in the session, joining pupils from the other schools for a range of fun, interactive and thought-provoking activities.
The activities focused on the importance of teamwork, communication, listening to others and recognising the different strengths and skills that each individual can bring to a group. The children had opportunities to work collaboratively, share their ideas and explore what makes a successful team.
It was wonderful to see children from different schools coming together, building relationships and recognising that everyone has something valuable to contribute.
We are incredibly proud of our School Council representatives for their enthusiasm, positive attitudes and willingness to get involved.
A huge thank you to Brooke and Beatrix from the Multi Schools Council for delivering such an engaging and valuable session, and to the visiting schools for joining us.
At Abacus, we strongly believe that every pupil has a voice, and opportunities like this help our children develop the confidence, leadership skills and teamwork needed to make a real difference within our school community.

Our fantastic Year 2 children delighted families with their brilliant Harvest performances, bringing three much-loved stories to life – The Little Red Hen, The Enormous Turnip and The Gingerbread Man!
With beautiful singing, enthusiastic storytelling and plenty of smiles, the children demonstrated fantastic confidence and teamwork. Their performances reminded us of the importance of helping others, working together, sharing and being thankful.
We are incredibly proud of every child for their hard work, enthusiasm and courage in performing in front of an audience.
A huge thank you to our wonderful Year 2 team for preparing such lovely performances and to all our families who came along to support the children.

Year 6 Step Back in Time to Ancient Greece
Year 6 have been bringing their Ancient Greek topic to life this week with some fantastic hands-on experiences!
The children started by putting their culinary skills to the test with some Greek cooking, exploring the flavours and foods of Ancient Greece.
On Wednesday, the excitement continued with our very own Ancient Greek Day! The children immersed themselves in the world of Ancient Greece, with one of the highlights being an exciting Now Press Play adventure. Using their imaginations, they travelled back in time and took on the important mission of helping to save Athens after the Parthenon was attacked by the Spartans!
It was wonderful to see the children so enthusiastic and engaged, bringing their historical learning to life through creativity, imagination and teamwork.
What a fantastic way to explore history! Well done, Year 6 – you certainly made Ancient Greece come alive!

What a wonderful evening we had at our FAPS Laser Night!
Our school community came together for a fantastic evening of fun, laughter and dazzling laser lights! It was lovely to see so many children and families enjoying themselves and making special memories together.
A huge thank you to our amazing Friends of Abacus Primary School (FAPS) for organising such a brilliant event. Your hard work, enthusiasm and dedication make such a difference to our school community, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you do.
Thank you also to all the families who came along and supported the evening. Events like these really highlight the wonderful sense of community we have here at Abacus.
What a fantastic way to end the first half term – full of fun, smiles and happy memories!
